Dear Competitors:
In spite of the fact that our January shows were frozen, we had a good turnout
(almost 100 horse entries over the two days). The sun shone and it was not
unpleasant. Forrest Franklin (age almost 2 years) was in his first horse show
(lead line) and had a splendid time. This year, by popular demand, we have
included 3 jumper classes on Hunter show days (see Hunter Classes): these have
been
received with great enthusiasm, and our competitors and spectators (and
horses!) as usual have a great
time. Also, on
Western day in October, we awarded a "Royal King" Roughout
Training Saddle (trainers' love them - they have loads of ring attachments) to
Katrina Nadratozoski riding 'The Mastercard', the Western Performance High-point Champion of the day. And for those
who may be preparing for World Trail Competition, our November and January Western shows featured a trail course designed by top professional course designer, Don
Lehman. As usual, the
premium covering Saddle Series 2006-2007
was mailed out in September; if you didn't get one, send us an email with your address and we'll send
one out and put you on our mailing list. Also, you may download and print Hunter
and Western Entry Forms available as .pdf
files (just click on either one and it will download so you can print it on
virtually any printer). This means you can produce the entry forms at home and
complete them before you arrive at the show. That will save us all time. Also
note there is an error in the premium; Class 40 is Hunter Over Fences (not
Hunter Hack), Class 48 is Hunter Over Fences (not Hunter Hack) as well. However, corrections have been
made in this web site and the downloadable hunter entry form above. Don't
forget our February show is double-judged (two judges independently judge each
class) and double-pointed (counts as two shows). There are two complete sets
of prizes, one set for each judge. Note that class entry fees are double as
well, as is the California State drug fee (i.e., $5 for each of the two
judges).
'Home Schoolers' Willowbrook is an approved vendor of riding training and horse care for various Charter Schools for home schoolers in California, including

'Dogs' We do not allow 'outside' dogs on our property at any time, no
matter how big or small, leashed or not. This is a safety consideration for
your protection and we will enforce it ruthlessly.
'Hoses & Bubblers' There are hoses
in the horse-trailer parking area which are convenient for filling buckets to water
your horses. Last year people drove or backed over hose bibs even though they
are clearly marked with cones or concrete blocks. Please be aware and avoid
them. Also,
every tree has a 'bubbler': if you allow your horse to go too close to the
trees, the bubblers can be stepped on and broken. Please give a wide berth to
the bases of trees.
'Weather' A note to those who call us about the
weather.
We've only
cancelled one show (El Niño) over the 130 or so shows we've held in the past
13 years!
Our arenas are on sand footings and have never flooded yet. We're in the desert: we
average around 2 inches of
rainfall per year (but get winds on occasion which proves you can't
have everything). Rest assured we will hold the shows as scheduled unless some
very rare, extreme condition prevails. And bear in mind that even though the
weather at your home is terrible, the chances are overwhelming that our weather will be quite suitable for a
show. Call us or click on the following
web site and it will give you the 5-day forecast for Desert Hot Springs
(92241) then you'll know as much as we do: http://www.cnn.com/WEATHER/sw/CA/DesertHotSpringsCADH.html
As always, we would like to thank all our sponsors and advertisers for supporting Saddle Series
and Willowbrook Horse Spring Shows. And thank you horse enthusiasts, ranch owners, students, parents, riders, trainers, and show
participants in the Southwest who receive our programs, attend our shows, and make them such a success. At Willowbrook we patronize
our advertisers and sponsors, use their products and services when
we can, and urge you to do the same. Thanks also to our wonderful volunteers who give their time and do such a wonderful job in enhancing your - and our - enjoyment of horse competition at
Willowbrook.
We hope you had a wonderful Christmas holiday, and are embarked upon a happy
and prosperous new year.
Sincerely yours,
Don & LoriLea Franklin
